Two of Cups upright

A straightforward toast between two people who see each other clearly and like what they see. A real connection is forming or deepening — mutual, balanced, both sides bringing something to the exchange. This is partnership at its most genuine: not one person accommodating the other, but two people actually meeting in the middle. Neither of you is performing here, which is rarer than it sounds.

Two people are actually meeting each other here, which is less common than the number of relationships would suggest. This card is about genuine mutuality. Both sides bringing something, both sides receiving something, neither doing most of the work. It applies to partnerships and friendships as readily as to romance. Whatever this connection is, it's currently in honest shape. Say the true thing.

Two of Cups reversed

A toast only one person is actually raising. Connection gone lopsided, give and take that stopped being equal. It can mean a disagreement between two people who usually get along, or a mismatch that's finally becoming hard to ignore. Sometimes it's simpler: a relationship cooling, not from any single event, just from attention going elsewhere. One person tending a connection isn't a connection. It's maintenance.

The balance has gone. One person carrying noticeably more of this than the other. This can be a misunderstanding that's calcified, or simply two people wanting different amounts of the same thing. Sometimes the imbalance is temporary and circumstantial; sometimes it's the actual structure. Worth finding out which, directly, rather than continuing to guess.
