Six of Cups upright

Two children exchange flowers in a quiet courtyard. Something simple, sweet, and a little nostalgic. The past is present in a good way right now: an old friend, a childhood memory, a sense of comfort that comes from something familiar. This is a good time for reconnecting, whether with a person, a place, or a version of yourself you'd lost touch with. Not everything old needs to stay in the past. Some of it is worth bringing forward.

Something from earlier in your life is relevant again, and it isn't nostalgia getting in the way. This card is about the good part of the past. A friendship worth reviving, a skill worth returning to, a version of yourself worth remembering. Simplicity and kindness are the register here rather than intensity. Reach out to the person you've been meaning to reach out to.

Six of Cups reversed

Nostalgia has turned into avoidance. Living in the memory of something instead of building anything new. It can mean an old relationship or pattern resurfacing in a way that isn't actually good for you now, however comfortable it feels. Or it's stuckness: idealizing the past enough that the present keeps losing the comparison. The warmth of what was is real. It isn't a substitute for what's actually in front of you.

The past has become somewhere you live rather than somewhere you visit. Idealising an earlier time is one of the more comfortable ways to avoid the current one. It can also mean something old resurfacing that genuinely isn't good for you now, however familiar it feels. The present is less interesting but considerably more available.
