Temperance upright
Temperance pours water between two cups without spilling a drop, one foot on solid ground and one in the water. This is a moment for blending rather than choosing: patience over urgency, moderation over extremes, the middle path that somehow gets you further than either edge would. Healing is happening slowly here, and slowly is the right speed for it. What feels like tension right now probably needs time and a steady hand rather than a decision.
Temperance is what happens when two things that shouldn't really work together turn out to, because someone was patient enough to blend them properly. This is rarely a fast card. Whatever's coming together here needs time, not urgency, to actually settle. Moderation isn't the exciting answer, but right now it's the correct one. Small, steady adjustments will get you further than one dramatic overhaul.
Temperance reversed
The cups have been spilled. Balance tipping into excess, or patience running out right before it would have paid off. It can mean pushing two things together that were never going to blend, forcing harmony where there's a genuine clash. Or it's simpler: too much of something good, not enough of the moderation that made it good in the first place. The fix is rarely dramatic. Usually it's a return to the slower version of whatever you're currently rushing.
Overcorrection. Swinging hard from one extreme to the other instead of finding the actual middle. It can also point to impatience wrecking something that was almost properly balanced. This is a moment to slow the adjustments down, not speed them up. What you're mixing needs more time before it's ready, not more force.
How this card is read
The passages above show this card on its own. In a reading, its meaning is composed again around its position and neighboring cards, so the same symbol can speak differently each time.
