Ace of Swords upright
A single blade breaks through cloud, crowned, absolutely clear about what it is. A moment of real mental clarity is available to you — the fog lifting on something you've been circling for a while. This is a good time for a decision, a hard conversation, or simply naming a truth you've been dancing around. Cut straight to the point. The direct path is the right one here.
Something has become clear that wasn't clear last week, and clarity like this doesn't usually last long unopened. This card is about the moment a situation resolves into something you can finally state in one sentence. Truth here is useful rather than comfortable, and it cuts in whatever direction it happens to be pointing. Say it plainly while you still can.
Ace of Swords reversed
The blade hasn't quite cut through. Clarity you can sense but haven't fully got hold of. It can mean confusion, or a truth being used carelessly, cutting in a way that does more harm than the clarity was worth. Sometimes it's simpler: an idea that seemed sharp and turned out to be half-formed. It's close. One more pass and it'll be ready to act on.
You almost have it. The shape of the thing is there and the words aren't. This often means information is missing rather than that your thinking is wrong. It can also mean clarity used badly: something true said in a way that did more damage than the truth was worth. Sharpen it before you use it.
How this card is read
The passages above show this card on its own. In a reading, its meaning is composed again around its position and neighboring cards, so the same symbol can speak differently each time.
