Seven of Swords upright
Someone slips away from a camp with five stolen swords, glancing back to see whether anyone noticed. Some strategy or discretion is called for right now — not everything needs to be announced before it's done. This can mean acting independently, keeping your own counsel, or simply not showing your whole hand yet. Be honest with yourself about whether this is smart strategy or avoidance dressed up as cleverness.
Something is being handled indirectly here, and it may or may not be you doing the handling. This card covers strategy and deception with the same image, because the line between them is thinner than anyone likes. Working around a problem instead of through it is sometimes correct and always worth noticing. Check whether the shortcut you're taking is one you'd defend out loud.
Seven of Swords reversed
Caught. A strategy exposed, a shortcut that didn't stay hidden. It can mean a deception coming to light, yours or someone else's, and the reckoning that follows it. Or it's the opposite: coming clean voluntarily, choosing honesty over a plan that was starting to feel like too much to carry alone. Whatever's been happening quietly is about to stop being quiet.
Something concealed is coming to light, or you're ready to stop concealing it. Confession is genuinely easier than maintenance, and this card usually arrives when that's become obvious. It can also mean catching someone else in something, which is uncomfortable in a different way. Get ahead of it rather than being found out by it.
How this card is read
The passages above show this card on its own. In a reading, its meaning is composed again around its position and neighboring cards, so the same symbol can speak differently each time.
