Ten of Swords upright

Face down with ten swords in his back, and a sunrise happening anyway, right behind him. Something here has hit rock bottom, and there's no point pretending otherwise — this is a real ending, possibly a painful betrayal. But look at the sky: the worst of this is already over, not still coming. Whatever this ending costs you, it's clearing space for a sunrise that already started without waiting for permission.

It's over, and the finality is the least ambiguous thing about this card. Endings this complete are painful and clean. Nothing left to salvage, which removes the exhausting question of whether to try. Rock bottom has one genuine advantage: there's no further down to worry about. The sky is already lightening at the edge of this. That isn't consolation, it's the actual next thing.

Ten of Swords reversed

The ending is being resisted. Refusing to accept that something is over, trying to survive a wound already fatal to the situation as it was. It can mean a slow recovery instead of a sudden one, healing that's happening but taking its time. Or the worst hasn't fully landed yet, and there's a version of this ending still trying to be avoided. You don't have to feel the sunrise for it to be happening.

The end has happened and recovery is starting, slowly. Survival after something like this rarely feels like triumph at first; it feels like getting up. It can also mean prolonging an ending well past its conclusion. The worst has happened. That means it's behind you.
