The Moon upright
The Moon lights a path that's hard to see clearly by. Shapes that could be a dog or could be a wolf. A road that curves out of sight. Something in your situation is genuinely uncertain right now, and no amount of thinking is going to make it fully clear before its time. This is a moment to move carefully and trust instinct over certainty, since certainty isn't actually on offer yet. Not every fear here is real, and not every one is imaginary. The Moon won't tell you which is which. Time will.
The Moon is what shows up when logic runs out of answers and something older takes over instead: intuition, imagination, dread. Not everything here needs to be solved with clear thinking; some of it is meant to be felt through, not figured out. If anxiety is loud right now, that doesn't necessarily mean the fear is accurate. The Moon distorts as much as it reveals. Trust the parts of this that feel true in your body, and hold the rest loosely until more light arrives.
The Moon reversed
The fog is starting to lift. Shapes on the path are finally resolving into what they actually are. It can mean a fear that turns out to be smaller than it felt, or a truth that was hidden finally coming into view. Sometimes it means the opposite: confusion getting worse because something is being actively obscured, by you or by someone else. The Moon is at its strongest just before dawn. Clarity is closer than the fog suggests.
Anxiety that was louder than the situation warranted is finally quieting down. This can be the relief of realizing a fear you'd been carrying was mostly imagined, or at least exaggerated. It can also mean a truth you'd been avoiding is now hard to keep avoiding. The fog clearing whether you're ready or not. Either way, clarity is close. It just took longer to arrive than you wanted.

The passages above show this card on its own. In a reading, its meaning is composed again around its position and neighboring cards, so the same symbol can speak differently each time.
